In recent days, many people filled the emergencies due to poisoning. In the first examinations, it was revealed that spinach was poisoned. The poisoning of this food, which is the most consumed in winter and very strong in iron, frightened everyone. So spinach poisons? What are the symptoms of spinach poisoning? What does spinach poisoning do?

Spinach, which is the richest iron among other nutrients in nature, must actually be consumed once. Despite this explanation made by experts at every opportunity, the people heat and consume spinach again and again. This situation reveals the poisoning effect of nitrate substance in spinach. In the past weeks, emergency services have been overflowing due to this problem of survival. However, everyone has revealed information that spinach is poisoning. Thereupon, the experts made a new explanation and emphasized that spinach does not poison directly but may cause poisoning when reheated, especially when consumed by children. Although our body meets the nutritional values it needs, there is no benefit due to the increase in nitrate level in the spinach content exposed to heat again. The body experiences serious symptoms due to the extra nitrate it receives. It can even cause damage if the necessary intervention is not carried out.

Increased nitrar levels cause the nervous system to weaken. This paves the way for the brain to weaken. In the first phase, the person experiences blurred vision and excessive nausea. Then motor movements are reduced. Reducing the amount of calcium in the bone and muscular system, nitrate causes the body to become sluggish and have unnecessary pain. Changing body complications with vomiting and weakening of immunity cause high fever and severe vomiting or diarrhea. The impaired intestinal flora causes the digestive system to collapse and the person to lose fluid rapidly.

First, the stomach is cleaned. Serum treatment is applied to strengthen immunity. Some drug treatments are applied to reduce the symptoms caused by poisoning. The person’s health begins to improve within an average week.

Ministry of Health made an official statement after these events:

“Between November 1-3, 44 of our citizens applied to hospitals due to food poisoning (spinach and spinach-like plants), and 25 of them were discharged. As of now, there is no life-threatening condition for our patients who applied to our hospitals in total, and the related process is closely followed by the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate, Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and our Governorship of Istanbul. “
